Literature Text

Up the steps
All to a forgotten heaven
From homes across the sea
As they hold him,
Bind him to a fate
An inescapable temptation
With twisting serpents
And forbidden fruit
Just beyond his reach
Similar to the ones told to him
From his childhood years
But they promised
Fame, Fortune
Gold
Unusable to him now
As he feels the knife
Tearing and pulling
At his black heart
Now free from his chest
And free from all the conflict
To be given as blood
For the rising sun
And he tumbles
Down,
Down
Without his rising spirit
Lost from his body
And the blood it carried
Goes falling down

I was thinking lots about the Aztecs, so I thought of their sacrificial rituals. I thought of this poem to be from the point of view of a Spanish Conquistador. I hope you like it! :)
